About This Event
The bounty of summer is over and the onion harvest is long past. With that came the hard work of digging, curing, storing, and selling at local markets. At every point along the way, the outer skins sloughed off and we meticulously gathered them for something special – to use as a natural fabric dye. The Onion Dye Workshop is the second in a series of natural dye workshops, each of which is centered around using items we grow here on the farm.
The Onion Dye Workshop will be held outdoors and includes all supplies and materials. You will learn the basics of natural vegetable dye, mordants, and natural fibers. Each person will design and dye their very own cotton scarf. For this event, we are going old style, working outdoors over an open fire to boil the onion skins and fabric. As this process can take some time, we encourage you to get comfy, enjoy the surroundings, make new friends, and enjoy a cool drink in the shade of the trees. A light snack will be served. So come and join us, as we embark on a new adventure of eco-friendly dyeing from our farm to your home.
